Overview

Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Okefenokee' originated as a sport of *H. 'Aoki'* developed by Walters Gardens, Inc. and named by J. Wilkins. This medium-sized cultivar is visually distinctive for its dark green leaf centers framed by narrow, golden yellow margins, a coloration that inspired its reference to the dark-water swamps of the Okefenokee.

In the Garden

*Hosta* 'Okefenokee' forms a mound-like clump reaching approximately 27 inches (68.6 cm) in height and 53 inches (134.6 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold margins remain brightest without scorching. The substantial, lightly corrugated leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade perennials; its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard hosta pest precautions apply: slug and deer damage may occur in garden settings.
