Overview

Registered in 2008 by R. Leask, *Hosta* 'OHS Calamari' is a small sport of *H.* 'Sea Octopus' distinguished by its narrow, lance-shaped leaves with creamy white centers and medium green margins. The foliage, measuring 7 inches (17.8 cm) long and just 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide, gives the plant an elongated, linear appearance that contrasts with the broader leaves typical of many hostas.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a compact, rhizomatous clump reaching 8 inches (20.3 cm) in height and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the white leaf centers remain most stable, and is well suited to rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Its small size makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation, and it pairs effectively with fine-textured shade plants such as ferns or *Heuchera*.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'OHS Calamari' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
