Overview

Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Ohh! Alpha' is a large, mound-forming cultivar derived from an open-pollinated seedling of unknown parentage. Its variegated leaves feature green, slightly rippled margins, deep veins, and a dull surface on both sides, with an ovate blade and cordate base.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches a mature diameter of 41 inches (104.1 cm) and a height of 16 inches (40.6 cm), with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for hostas, and benefits from consistent moisture. The long scapes, held horizontally at 30 to 44 inches (76.2 to 111.8 cm), carry flowers above the foliage, making it a useful specimen for mid-border or as a groundcover beneath deciduous trees. Companion plants include ferns, astilbes, and heucheras.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed.
