Overview

Registered in 2002 by P. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Ogon Sudare' is a small, mound-forming cultivar notable for its unusual color change as the season progresses. The lance-shaped leaves emerge with green centers and greenish-yellow margins that become more pronounced gold, with moderately rippled edges, a dull upper surface, and a slightly shiny underside.

In the Garden

This slow-growing hosta reaches approximately 9 inches (22.9 cm) in height and 25 inches (63.5 cm) in diameter, forming a compact mound suitable for the front of borders or rock gardens. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for the genus, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other small woodland perennials. Its small size makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from slugs and deer in typical hosta-growing zones.
