Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek of the American Hosta Society, 'Ogon Amagi Iwa' is a large sport of a select form of *Hosta longipes* var. *latifolia* (Amagi Iwa). It is visually distinctive for its ovate to elliptic green leaves with variable golden yellow to medium green, slightly rippled margins, and a long, thin curved leaf tip.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches a mature spread of 42 inches (106.7 cm) and a height of 17 inches (43.2 cm), with upright foliage. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its moderate growth rate makes it suitable for mid-border or specimen placement. The large, deeply veined leaves pair well with ferns or other shade perennials, though its substantial size limits container use.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage.
