Overview

Registered in 1986 by A. Summers and the American Hosta Society, 'North Hills' is a medium-sized sport of *Hosta* 'Fortunei Albomarginata'. It is visually distinctive for its dark green leaves with white margins and near-cordate leaf bases.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches a mature size of approximately 9 inches (22.9 cm) in leaf length and 6 inches (15.2 cm) in width, with a scape height of up to 31 inches (78.7 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, where its white margins remain crisp and contrast well with the dark green centers. 'North Hills' pairs effectively with other shade perennials such as ferns, heucheras, and astilbes, and is suitable for border plantings or woodland gardens.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
