Overview
Registered in 1991 by H. & D. Benedict, *Hosta* 'Nooner' is a medium-sized cultivar derived from a cross between *Hosta* 'Seduction' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Purple Passion' (pollen parent). The plant is distinguished by its dark green leaves with creamy yellow margins, a cordate leaf base, and nine pairs of veins per leaf.
In the Garden
'H Nooner' reaches a mature height of 13 inches (33.0 cm) and a spread of 18 inches (45.7 cm), making it suitable for the middle of a shaded border or as an accent in a woodland garden. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the creamy yellow margins remain distinct without scorching. Companion plants include ferns, *Heuchera*, and *Tiarella*, which share similar light and moisture requirements.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor regularly and use barriers or repellents as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
