Overview

Registered in 2004, 'Noble Eagle' is a medium-sized hosta cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *Hosta* 'William Lachman' as the pod parent. Its most distinctive feature is the unstable central streaking of yellow to gold tones that appears against a dark blue-green leaf margin, creating a variegated pattern that varies from leaf to leaf.

In the Garden

'Noble Eagle' forms an upright, moderately fast-growing clump reaching 27 inches (68.6 cm) in height and 22 inches (55.9 cm) in diameter. The broadly ovate, moderately cupped and corrugated leaves measure 8.75 inches (22.2 cm) long by 6.75 inches (17.1 cm) wide, with slightly rippled margins and a glaucous bloom on the undersides. The 41- to 45-inch (104.1 to 114.3 cm) scapes bear green stems with yellow streaks. This cultivar performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the leaf coloration remains most stable, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates. Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Noble Eagle' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
