Overview
Registered in 1991 by L. Simpers and P. Ruh, this medium-sized cultivar is a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Blue Boy'. 'No Frills' is distinguished by its blue-green leaves with a pronounced glaucous bloom on the upper surface, cordate leaf bases, and a compact, mounded habit.
In the Garden
'No Frills' reaches a mature spread of 28 inches (71.1 cm) and a height of 15 inches (38.1 cm), making it suitable for the middle of a shaded border or as a groundcover beneath deciduous trees. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its moderate size also allows for use in larger containers.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'No Frills' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
