Overview
Registered in 2014 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Nightfall' is a giant cultivar distinguished by its intensely corrugated, nearly round leaves of medium blue-green with flat margins. The leaf surface is dull on both sides, and the cordate leaf base contributes to the plant's substantial visual mass.
In the Garden
'Nightfall' forms a mound-like clump reaching 27 inches (68.6 cm) in height and 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the blue-green coloration is most pronounced. The large, heavily textured leaves provide contrast when paired with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. The thick, corrugated foliage offers moderate resistance to slug damage, though monitoring may still be necessary in damp conditions.
