Overview
Registered in 2009 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Night Music' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its intensely blue-green, heavily cupped leaves with a cobbled texture and slightly rippled margins. The broadly ovate, cordate-based foliage measures 6 inches (15.2 cm) long by 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide, with 15 vein pairs, and retains its blue coloration longer than many comparable cultivars.
In the Garden
'Night Music' forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border positions in partial to full shade. Its cupped, dull-surfaced leaves provide textural contrast when paired with finer-textured perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*, and the green scapes, which rise to 14 inches (35.6 cm), carry typical lavender flowers in midsummer. The plant's compact habit and intense blue color also suit shaded container plantings.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during establishment and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most blue-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; site in well-drained soil and monitor for pests in typical hosta-growing zones.
