Overview
Registered in 2007 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Navajo' is a medium-sized, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its variegated foliage, which features medium green, slightly rippled margins and a very shiny underside. The plant is notably floriferous, producing numerous reddish bracts and inflorescence leaves that add ornamental interest beyond the foliage.
In the Garden
*Hosta* 'Navajo' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 28 inches (71.1 cm) in height and 64 inches (162.6 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border positions in partial to full shade. Its elliptic leaves, measuring 9 inches (22.9 cm) long and 5.5 inches (14.0 cm) wide with 9 to 11 vein pairs, are lightly twisted, folded, and wavy, providing textural contrast when paired with finer-leaved perennials such as ferns or heucheras. The scapes, ranging from 27 to 34 inches (68.6 to 86.4 cm) tall, are green with a light red dusting and bear abundant flowers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
