Overview
Registered in 2003, 'Nathan Nirvana' is a large, mound-forming hosta resulting from a cross between *Hosta* 'William Lachman' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Permanent Wave' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its dark green, broadly ovate leaves with creamy white, slightly rippled margins, combined with a highly ribbed leaf surface and a fast growth rate.
In the Garden
'Nathan Nirvana' reaches 28 inches (71.1 cm) in height and 50 inches (127.0 cm) in diameter, forming a dense, moderate-growing mound. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and its large size makes it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders. Companion plants include ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials; its substantial leaf texture also works well in woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release formulation; slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed as needed.
