Overview
Registered in 2008, *Hosta* 'Mustang Sally' is a medium-sized variegated cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *Hosta* 'Uncle Albert' as the pod parent. Its distinctive foliage features dark green, slightly rippled margins with a slightly shiny surface on broadly ovate leaves with cordate bases and lightly wavy edges.
In the Garden
'Mustang Sally' forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border positions in partial to full shade. Its 9-inch (22.9 cm) long by 6-inch (15.2 cm) wide leaves with 9 to 11 vein pairs pair well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. This cultivar is not suited for container culture due to its medium size class.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during establishment and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Mustang Sally' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
