Overview
Registered in 1984 by M. Seaver, this large blue-green hosta was developed as a hybrid of *H. 'Wagon Wheels'*. The cultivar is distinguished by its substantial leaves—12 inches (30.5 cm) long and 8 inches (20.3 cm) wide—with 17 vein pairs and slightly blue-green margins, forming a dense, mounded clump.
In the Garden
'Hosta 'Muriel Seaver Brown' reaches a mature spread of 24 inches (61.0 cm) and a height of 16 inches (40.6 cm), with flower scapes extending 16 to 24 inches (40.6 to 61.0 cm) above the foliage. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green leaves hold color well. Suitable companions include ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large size makes it appropriate for mid-border or as a specimen in woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
