Overview

Registered in 2003 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Masquerade', 'Munchkin' is a small, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with medium green, flat margins and a thin glaucous bloom on the undersides. The ovate leaves, measuring 4.38 inches (11.1 cm) long and 2.88 inches (7.3 cm) wide, feature 6 to 7 vein pairs and a lightly wavy texture, forming a dense, mound-like habit.

In the Garden

'Munchkin' reaches a mature diameter of 23 inches (58.4 cm) and a height of 11 inches (27.9 cm), making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as edging along pathways. Its noted sun tolerance allows placement in more exposed sites than typical hostas, though it performs best in partial shade with consistent moisture. This compact cultivar works well in containers and pairs effectively with smaller ferns, heucheras, or woodland groundcovers.

Care Notes

Provide regular water during dry periods, particularly in sunnier locations, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While 'Munchkin' shows good resistance to typical pests, monitor for slugs and deer in garden settings, especially in shaded or moist areas.
