Overview

Registered in 1999 by N. Krul, this medium-sized hosta cultivar produces blue-green leaves with dark green, heavily rippled margins and a glaucous bloom on the undersides. The cordate-based leaves measure 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) long by 6 inches (15.2 cm) wide, with 12 to 13 vein pairs, and display a slightly shiny upper surface.

In the Garden

With a mature spread of 30 inches (76.2 cm) and height of 25 inches (63.5 cm), 'Mumsie' forms an upright, moderate-growing clump suitable for partial to full shade positions. Its substantial leaf size and distinctive rippled margins make it an effective specimen or accent plant in shaded borders, where it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The blue-green foliage provides good contrast alongside gold or chartreuse-leaved companions.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hostas.
