Section classIV-3

Overview

Registered in 1993, this small hosta cultivar resulted from a cross between *Hosta minor* and *Hosta* 'Piedmont Gold'. 'Mrs Minky' is visually distinctive for its green leaves with medium yellow, heavily rippled margins, a combination that creates a crisp, variegated effect on a compact plant.

In the Garden

Reaching 9 inches (22.9 cm) in height and 22 inches (55.9 cm) in diameter at maturity, 'Mrs Minky' forms a tidy, rounded clump suitable for the front of borders or rock gardens. Its small size and 6-inch (15.2 cm) leaves with 7 vein pairs make it an excellent candidate for container cultivation. It pairs well with other small perennials such as heucheras or dwarf ferns, and performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for hostas.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar may be susceptible to slug and deer damage, though its small, compact habit can make protective measures easier to implement.
