Overview
Registered in 2010 by P. & J. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Mr Big' is a giant variegated cultivar of unknown parentage. It is distinguished by its exceptionally large, ovate leaves with dark green, slightly rippled margins, a twisted and corrugated texture, and a dull green underside.
In the Garden
'Mr Big' is best suited to partial to full shade, typical for most hostas. At maturity, it forms a substantial mound 41 inches (104 cm) in diameter and 20 inches (51 cm) tall, with leaves reaching 15.75 inches (40 cm) in length. Its large scale makes it an effective specimen or background plant in woodland gardens, paired with ferns or shade-tolerant perennials. It is not recommended for containers due to its giant size.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, it may be susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing.
