Overview
Registered in 1999 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Choko Nishiki', 'Mountain Sunrise' is a large, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with golden yellow margins. The leaf blades are slightly shiny on both surfaces, possess a rounded base, and exhibit slightly rippled margins with 14 to 15 vein pairs.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature spread of approximately 45 inches (114 cm) and a height of 22 inches (56 cm), forming a dense, rounded mound. Scapes rise 30 to 40 inches (76 to 102 cm) above the foliage. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for gold-margined hostas, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large size makes it suitable as a specimen or for use in the middle of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, 'Mountain Sunrise' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
