Overview
Registered in 2010 by R. Kuenster (AHS), 'Mountain Pride' is a giant variegated hosta of unknown parentage. Its most distinctive features are the large, broadly ovate leaves with medium green margins and a fast growth rate that produces a flowing, mound-like form.
In the Garden
'Mountian Pride' reaches 69 inches (175.3 cm) in diameter and 33 inches (83.8 cm) in height, making it suitable as a specimen plant or as a bold accent in large borders. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its substantial size and fast growth make it unsuitable for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Mountain Pride' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
