Overview
Registered in 2003, this cultivar is a sport of *Hosta* 'Choko Nishiki' and originates from the Mount Fuji region of Japan, where it is noted for its very late emergence. 'Mountain Dew' is visually distinctive for its medium gold leaves with narrow white margins, a color combination that becomes more pronounced as the season progresses.
In the Garden
'Mount Dew' forms a large, upright clump reaching 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter. Its slow growth rate and late emergence make it suitable for shaded or partially shaded positions in typical hosta-growing zones, where it provides a bright accent among darker-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*. The ovate, lightly wavy leaves with cordate bases and 13 to 14 vein pairs create a substantial textural presence.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth begins. While typical hosta slug and deer resistance is not guaranteed, the late emergence may reduce early-season pest pressure.
