Overview

Registered in 1995, *Hosta* 'Mount Tom' is a large cultivar of unknown breeder, notable for its broad, rounded leaves of blue-green with wide, creamy white margins. The leaf surface is dull above with a glaucous bloom beneath, and the plant produces green scapes bearing flowers in summer.

In the Garden

'Mount Tom' forms a substantial clump reaching 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter and 19 inches (48.3 cm) in height, with a semi-upright, moderate growth habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hostas, and its large, boldly variegated leaves make it effective as a specimen or in mixed shade borders. The plant's size and moderate growth rate suit it for mid-border positions alongside other shade perennials such as ferns or astilbes.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed as needed in the garden.
