Overview

Registered in 1996, *Hosta* 'Mount Everest' is a large, mound-forming cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Sea Prize' and *H. montana*. It is visually distinctive for its dark blue-green leaves with wide, pure white margins and a glaucous bloom on the undersides.

In the Garden

'Mount Everest' forms a dense mound reaching approximately 35 inches (89 cm) in diameter and 13 inches (33 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the white margins remain crisp and the blue-green center coloration is most pronounced. The large, cordate leaves with slightly rippled margins make it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders alongside ferns, astilbes, or other medium-to-large hostas.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
