Overview

Registered in 2005 by P. & J. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Mount Daisen' is a large, upright cultivar derived from self-pollinated *Hosta montana*. Its most distinctive features are the very shiny, dark green leaves with slightly rippled margins, combined with a tall scape that reaches up to 60 inches (152.4 cm), giving the plant a stately, vertical presence.

In the Garden

'Mount Daisen' forms a substantial clump 54 inches (137.2 cm) in diameter and 29 inches (73.7 cm) tall, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its upright habit makes it suitable for mid-border or as a specimen plant in woodland gardens. The large, deeply folded leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast in texture.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, 'Mount Daisen' may require protection from slugs and snails, and deer browsing can be a concern in some areas.
