Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Anne' registered in 2011, 'Morning Star' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its light yellow leaves with broad, dark green, slightly rippled margins. The broadly ovate leaves are lightly cupped, slightly shiny above and dull beneath, with nine pairs of veins.
In the Garden
'Morning Star' forms a compact mound 13.8 inches (35.1 cm) tall and 23.6 inches (59.9 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It is noted for sun resistance, making it suitable for brighter positions than many hostas, though it performs best in typical hosta-growing zones with some afternoon shade. Its small size suits it for the front of borders, rock gardens, or containers; companion plants include small ferns, heucheras, or fine-textured groundcovers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it may be susceptible to slug and deer damage in garden settings.
