Overview

Registered in 2000 as a sport of an unnamed parent, *Hosta* 'Morning Light' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with gold margins and notably heavy substance. The broadly ovate leaves, measuring 5.5 inches (14.0 cm) long and 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) wide, feature pale yellow centers that transition to dark green, with flat margins and a slightly shiny upper surface.

In the Garden

Reaching a mature height of 20 inches (50.8 cm) with an upright habit, 'Morning Light' is suitable for partial shade to dappled sunlight in typical hosta-growing zones. Its moderate growth rate and compact dimensions make it an effective choice for rock gardens, woodland borders, or container plantings. Companion plants such as ferns, heucheras, or small astilbes complement its restrained form.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While heavy leaf substance offers some resistance, standard slug and deer deterrents are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
