Overview
Registered in 2010, *Hosta* 'Moonrise' is a medium-sized cultivar whose pod parent is *Hosta* 'Dorothy Benedict' and whose pollen parent is unknown. It is visually distinctive for its nearly round, light green leaves with broad, pale yellow margins that are slightly rippled, creating a muted variegation.
In the Garden
This slow-growing, mound-forming hosta reaches approximately 20 inches in height and 36 inches in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border positions in partial to full shade. Its dull-surfaced leaves pair well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its light variegation. The plant’s compact, rounded habit also suits woodland gardens or shaded foundation plantings.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry spells, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage, which may be less problematic if sited in drier, well-drained soil.
