Overview
Registered in 1977 by P. Banyai, *Hosta* 'Moonlight' is a medium-sized sport of *Hosta* 'Gold Standard'. Its leaves are green-gold with white margins, a reverse coloration of the parent cultivar, giving it a distinctive light-centered appearance.
In the Garden
'Moonlight' forms a compact mound 12 inches (30.5 cm) tall and 18 inches (45.7 cm) wide, suitable for the middle of a shaded border or as an edging plant. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the leaf centers hold their green-gold hue without scorching. Pair with dark-leaved heucheras or ferns for contrast; its moderate size also suits container plantings.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry spells, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor accordingly in typical hosta-growing zones.
