Overview

Registered in 1994 as a sport of *Hosta* 'August Moon', this medium-sized cultivar was originated by M. Plater-Zyberk and registered by R. Solberg. 'Moon Waves' is distinguished by its green leaves with medium gold, heavily rippled margins, a dull surface on both sides, and rounded leaf bases.

In the Garden

Reaching 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter with a semi-upright habit, 'Moon Waves' forms a compact, mounding clump suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. Its 10-inch (25.4 cm) long by 5-inch (12.7 cm) wide leaves, with 9 to 11 vein pairs, provide textural contrast when paired with finer-leaved perennials such as ferns or heucheras. The gold scapes, reaching 30 inches (76.2 cm) in height, bear flowers that rise above the foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard precautions against slugs and deer are advisable, as both may damage the foliage.
