Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Velvet Moon' registered in 2010, 'Moon Split' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by a rare variegation pattern: a narrow, dark green streak that runs through the golden yellow leaf margin. The broadly ovate, lightly corrugated leaves are dark green with wide, flat, golden yellow margins measuring 2.1 to 2.6 inches (5.3–6.6 cm) across, and the leaf surface is dull on both sides.
In the Garden
'Moon Split' forms a fast-growing, mound-like clump reaching approximately 16 inches (41 cm) in height and 36 inches (92 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical of most hostas, and is suitable for borders, woodland gardens, or as a specimen plant. Its medium size and distinctive foliage make it an effective companion for ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or deterrents.
