Overview
Registered in 1991 by W. & E. Lachman, *Hosta* 'Moon River' is a small-sized cultivar derived from a cross between *Hosta* 'Crepe Suzette' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Blue Moon' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its cordate, blue-green leaves with white margins, typically displaying six to seven vein pairs per leaf.
In the Garden
With a mature spread of 16 inches (40.6 cm) and height of 11 inches (27.9 cm), 'Moon River' is suited to the front of borders, rock gardens, or as edging in partial to full shade. Its compact size makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation. Companion plants that appreciate similar conditions include ferns, *Heuchera*, and small woodland perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor regularly and employ control measures as needed.
