Overview
Registered in 2013, 'Moolah' is a small hosta cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *H. 'Gaigin'* as the pod parent. Its most distinctive characteristic is the seasonal color transition: leaves emerge solid dark green in spring, then develop a greenish-yellow margin and a multicolored center of dark green, olive, light green, and yellow tones by midsummer.
In the Garden
'Moolah' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter and 5 inches (12.7 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for small hostas, and is well-suited for rock gardens, woodland edges, or the front of shaded borders. Its small size makes it an excellent candidate for container plantings or trough gardens.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor foliage for signs of feeding and take protective measures if necessary.
