Overview
Registered in 1998 by S. Megos, 'Mohegan' is a giant hosta cultivar of unknown parentage, distinguished by its large, cordate leaves of medium blue-green with dull surfaces on both sides. The leaf margins are also medium blue-green, contributing to a uniform, muted appearance.
In the Garden
'Mohegan' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching approximately 21 inches (53.3 cm) in height and 42 inches (106.7 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast its broad foliage. Its giant size makes it unsuitable for containers.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Mohegan' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, requiring protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
