Overview

Registered in 1988 by R. Savory, this small hosta cultivar resulted from a cross between *Hosta* 'August Moon' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Tokudama' (pollen parent). 'Mogul' is visually distinctive for its variegated foliage, featuring bright green margins surrounding a lighter leaf center, a pattern inherited from its parentage.

In the Garden

'Mogul' reaches a mature size of 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height with a spread of 15 inches (38.1 cm), making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or small woodland settings. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and pairs well with other small shade perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or dwarf astilbes. Its compact habit also makes it appropriate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Mogul' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
