Overview
Registered in 2010, *Hosta* 'Miyazaki' is a small, mound-forming cultivar of Japanese origin, selected from a cross with *Hosta longipes* as the pod parent (pollen parent unknown). It is visually distinctive for its narrowly ovate, dull green leaves with flat, medium green margins and white centers that exhibit green speckling, producing a mottled appearance in spring.
In the Garden
'Miyazaki' forms a compact, moderate-growing mound 6 inches (15.2 cm) tall and 17 inches (43.2 cm) in diameter, with moderately folded and wavy leaves 5 inches (12.7 cm) long and 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) wide. It is suitable for shaded to partially shaded positions in typical hosta-growing zones and performs well in containers due to its small size. Companion plants include small ferns, heucheras, or other miniature hostas that do not overwhelm its delicate foliage.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during dry periods; fertilize lightly in early spring as growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, though the dull leaf surface offers slight resistance to slug feeding.
