Overview
Registered in 2004 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Sand Pebbles', 'Misty Dawn' is a medium-sized variegated cultivar distinguished by a frosty green bloom that covers the leaf surface, creating the appearance of dew or morning mist. Its broadly ovate, moderately corrugated leaves feature medium green, slightly rippled margins with a slightly shiny upper surface and dull underside, supported by eight vein pairs.
In the Garden
'Misty Dawn' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its distinctive bloom is most visible, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in shaded beds.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are recommended, as with most hostas, though the slightly corrugated leaf texture may offer minor resistance.
