Overview

Registered in 2003, *Hosta* 'Mississippi Gold' is a large, upright cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *H. 'Sagae'* as its pod parent. It is distinguished by its broadly ovate, moderately flat leaves that are green with bright golden yellow margins, the margins slightly rippled and the leaf surface slightly shiny above and dull beneath.

In the Garden

'Misisissippi Gold' reaches a mature diameter of approximately 52 inches (132 cm) and a height of 22 inches (56 cm), with scapes rising 30 to 38 inches (76 to 97 cm). Its upright habit and bright gold margins make it suitable for mid-border or as a specimen in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones. It pairs well with darker-leaved perennials or ferns that contrast with its light foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Slugs may damage the leaves, and deer are known to browse hostas, so appropriate management should be considered.
