Overview

Registered in 1998, *Hosta* 'Mississippi Delta' is a giant cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Sea Gold' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Golden Torch' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its intensely blue-green, heavily textured leaves with slightly rippled margins and a glaucous bloom on the undersides, combined with an upright, substantial habit.

In the Garden

'Mississippi Delta' reaches a mature spread of approximately 56 inches (142 cm) and a height of 32 inches (81 cm), making it suitable as a bold specimen or focal point in partial to full shade. Its large, cordate leaves and tall scapes (40 to 42 inches / 102 to 107 cm) pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast in texture or color. The plant's moderate growth rate and upright form allow it to integrate into mixed borders or woodland settings without overwhelming adjacent plants.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, 'Mississippi Delta' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
