Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Winfield Blue' registered in 2003, 'Miss Halley' is a small, slow-growing cultivar distinguished by its dramatic color transition: emerging with blue-green centers and gold margins, the leaf centers shift from blue to yellow as the season progresses. This mound-forming plant reaches 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter.
In the Garden
'Miss Halley' performs best in partial to full shade, where its glaucous blue-green margins contrast effectively with the yellowing centers. At its mature size of under two feet in spread, it suits the front of shaded borders, rock gardens, or trough plantings. Companion plants such as small ferns, *Heuchera*, or *Carex* complement its compact habit without overwhelming it.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during dry periods; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as growth resumes. Like many hostas, 'Miss Halley' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
