Overview

Registered in 2009 by the American Hosta Society (registrant K. Walek), *Hosta* 'Mishima Fukurin Koba' is a small-sized cultivar derived from a selected form of *Hosta sieboldii*. It is visually distinctive for its olive green, elliptic leaves with narrow, creamy yellow to white margins that are slightly rippled, and for its semi-upright to mounding growth habit.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a dense mound reaching 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height and 35 inches (88.9 cm) in diameter, with scapes rising 25 to 30 inches (63.5 to 76.2 cm) above the foliage. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the white margins remain most distinct. Its small size and compact habit make it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings, and it pairs well with other small shade perennials such as ferns or heucheras.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from slugs and deer, which may damage the foliage.
