Overview

Registered in 1975 by A. Arett from unknown parentage, 'Minnie Klopping' is a small hosta distinguished by its variegated foliage: dark green margins with a lighter center, and a satiny upper leaf surface. The leaves measure 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) long by 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) wide, with seven pairs of veins.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches a mature diameter of 15 inches (38.1 cm) and a height of 12 inches (30.5 cm), making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hostas, and pairs well with other small perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or dwarf astilbes. Its compact size also makes it an excellent choice for trough gardens or small woodland settings.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hosta cultivars.
