Overview

Registered in 1997 by an unknown hybridizer, 'Minna Blue' is a small blue-green hosta with a compact, mound-like habit. Its narrow, tapered leaves with slightly rippled margins and dull surfaces distinguish it from other blue-leaved cultivars of similar stature.

In the Garden

'Minna Blue' forms a tidy mound 11.6 inches (29.5 cm) tall and 26 inches (66 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of blue-leaved hostas, where its blue-green coloration remains most intense. The small size and neat habit make it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border, where it can be paired with other small perennials such as ferns or heucheras.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor regularly and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
