Overview
Registered in 1992 as a selfed seedling of *Hosta* 'Blue Moon', 'Minimoon' is a miniature cultivar distinguished by its intensely blue-green, highly glossy leaves and compact, dome-shaped habit. The leaf blades are 2.25 inches (5.7 cm) long by 1.75 inches (4.4 cm) wide, with medium blue-green margins, a very shiny upper surface, a dull underside, and rounded bases; each leaf bears 11 pairs of veins.
In the Garden
'Minimoon' reaches a mature diameter of 5 inches (12.7 cm) and a height of 4.5 inches (11.4 cm), making it suitable for trough gardens, rockeries, or the front edge of a shaded border. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs well with other diminutive perennials such as miniature ferns, *Heuchera* cultivars, or small sedges. Its compact size also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage the foliage; monitoring and preventive measures are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
