Overview

Registered in 2006, *Hosta* 'Midsummer Night's Green' is a large, fast-growing cultivar derived from *H. longipes* f. *latifolia* as the pod parent. The plant is distinguished by its upright, tall, narrow habit and broadly ovate, very shiny leaves with medium green, slightly rippled margins and a flat to rounded base.

In the Garden

'Midsummer Night's Green' reaches a mature size of 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in height, with scapes extending 36 to 42 inches (91.4 to 106.7 cm) high. It is noted as the most sun-tolerant of its hybridizer's cultivars, making it suitable for brighter positions in typical hosta-growing zones where many hostas would scorch. Its upright form and glossy foliage pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade perennials that contrast in texture.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While more sun-tolerant than many hostas, the glossy leaves may still be susceptible to slug damage in damp conditions; deer may browse the foliage.
