Overview

Registered in 1978 by P. Aden, this large hosta cultivar resulted from a cross between *Hosta* 'Gold Cup' and *Hosta* 'Golden Waffles'. It is visually distinctive for its green leaves with deep yellow, heavily undulated margins, a color pattern that reverses the typical gold-centered, green-margined form.

In the Garden

*Hosta* 'Midas Touch' forms a substantial clump reaching 36 inches (91.4 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter. Its large leaves, measuring 9 inches (22.9 cm) long by 8 inches (20.3 cm) wide with 16 pairs of veins, are best displayed in partial to full shade, where the gold margins hold their color without scorching. This cultivar pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade perennials; its size makes it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, and may require protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
