Overview
Registered in 1999, this small hosta cultivar is a hybrid of *Hosta venusta* 'Porter' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Craig's Temptation' (pollen parent). 'Michael's Legacy' is visually defined by its dark green, very glossy leaves edged with a narrow (0.06 in / 0.2 cm), white, slightly rippled margin, combined with a compact, mound-like habit.
In the Garden
'Michael's Legacy' forms a dense mound 6 in (15.2 cm) tall and 14 in (35.6 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It is best sited in partial to full shade, where the white leaf margins remain distinct without scorching. Its small size and tidy habit make it suitable for the front of a border, rock gardens, or container plantings; companion plants could include small ferns, heucheras, or miniature sedges.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While hostas are generally susceptible to slugs and deer, the relatively thick, glossy leaves of this cultivar may offer slightly more resistance than thin-leaved varieties.
