Overview
Registered in 2011, *Hosta* 'Megan' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown parentage. Its most distinctive feature is the jagged, irregular appearance of the golden bronze margin against a blue-green leaf center, a pattern that sets it apart from more uniformly variegated hostas.
In the Garden
'Megan' forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height and 35 inches (88.9 cm) in diameter. Its broadly ovate leaves, measuring 7.5 inches (19.1 cm) long and 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) wide, have a dull upper surface and a glaucous bloom beneath. The green scapes rise 24 to 27 inches (61.0 to 68.6 cm) above the foliage. This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Megan' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
