Overview

Registered in 1991 by W. Vaughn, this large hosta resulted from a cross between a *Hosta sieboldiana* hybrid and *Hosta* 'Golden Waffles'. 'Maui Hana' is distinguished by its variegated foliage, with leaves exhibiting light green margins that show small undulations, creating a textured appearance.

In the Garden

'Maui Hana' reaches a mature spread of 36 inches (91.4 cm) and a height of 24 inches (61.0 cm), making it suitable as a specimen or mid-border plant in partial to full shade. Its large, prominently veined leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its light green variegation. The 28-inch (71.1 cm) scapes bear lavender flowers in midsummer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, requiring protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
