Overview
Registered in 2014, this miniature cultivar resulted from open pollination of *Hosta* 'Sum and Substance'. 'Marlu's Marla Jean' is visually distinctive for its nearly round, greenish yellow leaves with green margins and gold edges, forming a compact, upright mound.
In the Garden
With a mature diameter of 14 inches (35.6 cm) and height of 5 inches (12.7 cm), this slow-growing miniature is well suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs effectively with other small perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*. Its compact size also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate protective measures may be necessary in typical hosta-growing zones.
